President Traian Basescu announced that he demanded the increase of the Defense Ministry budget from 1.91 to 2.38% of the gross domestic product (GDP). The budget growth comes at the same time with a personnel re-structuring for both high-ranking officers and civilian employees.

Basescu also discussed the main problem approached in the Supreme Defense Council (CSAT), namely the security conditions and terrorist threats around the NATO summit Romania will host in 2008. According to Basescu, "terrorist activities intensified, but the situation is under control".
