The European Commission is likely to sanction Bulgaria because it failed to implement in due time several recommendations, EC commissioner Meglena Kuneva announced on Tuesday, during a public debate in Sofia on the new European Union treaty, Novinite.com informs.

Bulgaria’s unresolved problems regard the garbage waste crisis, the list regarding protected areas to be included in the Nature 2000 network, introducing the unique European emergency number 112 and the biometrical data documents, Novinite reads.

The European Commission is about to decide on Wednesday the sanctions for Bulgaria. The judicial procedures against Bulgaria will be started if Bulgarian officials do no prove they are making efforts to implement the EC’s recommendations.
