Romania's new Agriculture minister Dacian Ciocolos will be sworn in on Monday afternoon after his confirmation for the ministerial seat last Friday. The ceremony will take place at the Presidential Palace in the presence of President Traian Basescu. He takes the place of Decebal Traian Remes, who resigned at the peak of a corruption scandal last week.

Ciolos, who served as undersecretary in the Agriculture Ministry, was proposed for the job of Agriculture minister by Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu on October 12.

Agriculture Minister Decebal Traian Remes resigned on October 11 at Tariceanu's request after several corruption allegations made against him by anti-graft prosecutors.

The resignation came a day after the European Commission warned Romania to take urgent measures to reform its farming payment systems or risk the activation of a safeguard clause that would prevent it from receiving European farming aid.
