The President of Germany Horst Koehler was ''attacked'' by a man of Romanian origin on Sunday, Reuters reports. The man, 44, reached the President, but was quickly taken aback by the bodyguards, the Frankfurt police informs. A Police spokesperson said that the man seemed confused.

The spokesperson said the man meant to grab the President’s attention to his urgent financial needs.

The President’s spokesperson declared that the gesture was not politically motivated.

Koehler, who was leaving International Book Fair in Frankfurt, was not harmed in the incident.
