Russian natural gas giant Gazprom announced that it would cease the gas delivery towards Ukraine in case the local authorities don't pay their 1.3 billion euros debt until the end of the month.

Although the announcement comes only two days after the parliamentarian elections in Ukraine seem to show the pro-Western group as winner, Gazprom officials claim the decision has nothing to do with any political considerations.

"When the votes were still counted, the political calculations still far from any result and the future cabinet was still far from being configured, Russia let the world know that the new government in Kiev is not after its taste", Gazeta.ru reads.

Unofficial sources say that the Ukrainian partner of Gazprom, Naftogaz, knows nothing about any debt.

Some analysts say that Gazprom isn't warning, in fact, Ukraine, but the European Union, since Ukraine hosts the main gas pipelines towards Europe.
