The problem of Roma minority immigrants in Italy was discussed in detail during the official meeting between the Italian Interior Minister, led by sub-secretary Marcella Lucidi and a delegation representing the Romanian government. The Romania delegation was headed by Dan Varga, personal adviser of PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu.

Both parties insisted on the need of a close collaboration between Italy and Romania, in order to socially integrate the Roma ethnics and fight crime.

“The control of Roma citizens coming from Romania towards Italy and organizing voluntary repatriation actions for those who lack financial means are a fundamental aspect for the integration and security policies”, said Marcella Lucidi, second deputy-chief of the Italian Interior Ministry.
