The Parliamentary Commission controlling the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) hears SRI head George Maior on Monday after a press release of a self-proclaimed "political investigator" claimed that the institution has been running political police activities.

According to claims by Mugur Ciuvica of the Political Investigations Group, SRI was involved in tracking the activities of Romanian Liberal Senator Norica Nicolai and in delivering reports on the creation of a right-wing pole initiated by Romania's governing Liberal party PNL in the neighboring Moldova Republic.

SRI said it would deliver the conclusions of its own internal investigation into the matter within a week. The members of the parliamentary commissions are then expected to decide on possible further hearings.

Radu Stroe, the head of the commission, said that official documents would be requested. Plus, the Commission would investigate all personnel allegedly involved in the actions.
