The wife and seven children of the Romanian fugitive Omar Hayssam, who fled Romania while facing terrorism-related charges, did not return in Romania by September 15 as they were supposed to according to a court ruling.

The lawyer representing Hayssam's wife says that the Syrian justice system does not allow her to return as she does not have the agreement of her husband to leave Syria with her children.

Omar Hayssam is the subject of an international arrest warrant after his being sentenced by the Bucharest Appeals Court to 20 years for his role in the kidnapping of three Romanian journalists in Iraq in 2005.

He fled Romania shortly after he was paroled on medical grounds in the first half of 2006. This summer, his wife and children received green light to temporarily visit him in Syria but were supposed to return to Romania by September 15.
