Two ethnic Rroma men from Romania have been caught fishing some 800 euro in coins in Fontana di Trevi in Italian capital Rome. The two, aged 21 and 28 respectively, were caught by local police agents while picking up the “wish coins” in full daylight, Italian news agency ANSA reports.

The police retained the two accusing them of stealing nearly 800 euro from the Fontana di Trevi. Their tools - telescopic sticks with magnets at the end - were confiscated

The police announced that the two thieves were living in an unauthorized improvised camp in Rome’s outskirts. They will remain in police custody until investigations are over.

The City Hall Council in Rome decided on July 2002 that all the coins from Fontana di Trevi be picked up daily and donated to charity organizations. According to tradition if you throw a coin in the fountain and make a wish, it will come true.
