"4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days" by Romanian movie director Cristian Mungiu is the movie chosen to represent Romania in the 2008 edition of the Academy Awards. The choice was made by a commission formed by movies critics and movie makers, one of the commission members declared to the NewsIn news agency.

Mungiu's film was voted for unanimously. For the first time in history, 95 countries were invited by the American Film Academy to sent their films to compete for the "Best Foreign Movie" award.

Romania was represented in 2007 by Catalin Mitulescu's "How I spent the end of the world" and by "The Death of Mr. Lazarescu" in 2006.

"4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days" received the highest honor in the International Film Festival in Cannes, Palme d'Or and numerous other awards.
