The foreign and the Interior Ministries in Moldova rejected the accusations made on Wednesday by Romania president Traian Basescu, who claimed that the scandal on a supposed corrupt Romanian diplomat was provoked by the governing authorities, the Rador news agency informs, quoting a Radio France Internationale report.

Moldovan prime minister Vasile Tarlev refused to comment on Basescu’s statements and denied the existence of any diplomatic conflict. In his opinion, Romania and Moldova should cooperate in investigating the situation at the Romanian consulate.

About a week ago, a Romanian diplomat was accused of accepting bribe in exchange for visas for Romania.

Opposition parties in Moldova support president Basescu’s accusations and claim that the governing Communist party provoked the visas scandal.
