The construction works battalion of the US Navy troops camped in Romania, at the Mihail Kogalniceanu airport, will conduct both maintenance works for the US equipment and humanitarian missions in Romania and Bulgaria, an article in daily “Stars and Stripes” unveils.

For the first time in history, the renowned "Seabees", the US Navy construction workers, put up a permanent base in Romania, similar to the one in Rota (Spain).

A group of 20-30 militaries in the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 40 is already stationed at the Mihail Kogalniceanu base, ordered to "fix whatever is necessary" and help the American troops arrange their new location.

The battalion coming from Port Hueneme (California) will also conduct humanitarian missions, after some of their duties will be outsourced to specialized companies.

“The Seabees will be allowed to go outside the base and help building orphanages, renovate hospitals or dig fountains", says lieutenant Brad Coleman, chief of the group.
