All farmers who submitted this far compensation demands for drought-affected crops received their money. Roughly 40 MN euros (121 million RON) were paid for the 348,000 hectares affected during the past two months by the lack of precipitations and the excessive heat.

Over half of all crops planted in fall 2006 (60%, experts say) were considered as under calamity. The Government decided to allocate a total of 500 million RON as compensations, but only farmers who followed the official recommendations are entitled to receive their money.

The maximum compensation level was established at 70% of the expenses for planting and supporting the crops until the calamity status was officially declared.
