The Arpechim refinery may continue its activity, the Arges Appeal Court decided on Wednesday. The Regional Environment Protection Agency in the Pitesti county decided at the end of May to withdraw its environment authorization for Arpechim, considering that the owner, oil giant Petrom (owned by Austrian OMV) didn't fulfill its obligations.

The decision was attacked in court by the Petrom representatives and the Pitesti Court decided that Arpechim may function again. The sentence was appealed to by the Agency, which lost the case today.

"The court considered the economic and social aspects of the case as priorities", the Agency director, Marius Stanca, said after the sentence.

Arpechim currently produces half of the fuels sold by Petrom.
