CNSAS, the official institution for the study of heritage files of Ceausescu's Political Police, Securitate, elected today its new president, Ladislau Csendes with a close 6 votes for and 5 against. His countercandicate was Laurentiu Tanase, a Social Democrat Party member. At the same meeting, the College chose its new vicepresident, Virgiliu Tarau.

Elections took place after the former president, Claudiu Secasiu withdrawn for personal reasons. College MEMBERS tried, for over a month, to elect a new president, but failed due to lack of quorum.

Claudiu Secasiu ran CNSAS since April last year as a compromise, after the scandal regarding the election of Corneliu Turianu instead of Constantin Ticu Dumitrescu for the same seat. To end the scandal, the College set a rotative presidency for the institute.
