Six Romanians died and three were severely injured in a car accident on a highway near Rome on Sunday morning. The car the Romanians traveled in was registered in Romania. Related information was officially confirmed by an Italian newspaper, Corrierre della Sera, who quoted the highway operator in the peninsula.

Romanian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ilie Banica confirmed for HotNews.ro that all the victims are Romanian citizens.

The Italian police said that the driver lost control of the car, causing it to crash.

ANSA news agency announced from the very beginning that the victims were Romanian citizens even though the Italian police confirmed it later on.

The accident took place on A1 highway from Rome to Florence, 15 km away from Rome.
