The session on Thursday of the Romanian Supreme Defense Council had the existing and expected drought as central subject. According to a presidential press release, Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu presented a report on the theme, discussing the measures the government is about to take in order to diminish the effects.

The chief of state also asked about details on the level of rivers' flows, the strategic water reserves, the surfaces affected until now, the drought's impact on the national energy system and the state reserves.

The Council will still discuss today several important issues:

- the availability of military forces for future collective peace actions;

- the suggestion of the Council for modifying the contract between the Romanian state and BAE Systems for logistical support on operating frigates;

- The risks for the national security in the context of having illegal data collection activities run through protection companies and private detectives;

- the European anti-drugs partnership.
