Greek authorities have announced a series of measures to prevent the effects of a heat wave expected to hit the country the coming weekend, when the temperatures are predicted to be over 43 degrees Celsius, according to various international media.

The international press quotes the Greek Health Ministry in stating that the hospitals will be on high alert in the ‘Perseu’ plan, which regards the management of the high temperature effects in the country. Given this, hospitals will have to report the exact number of people who reach the hospital because of high temperatures.

Likewise, hospitals give away brochures with advice against the effects of the unbearable heat. Plus, the Ministry adviced that people with health problems should not leave their houses and warned the population to save electricity.

Because of the extreme use of AC’s, electricity consumption level reached the highest level since the beginning of the year in Greece two days ago. The electricity company warned against possible electricity drop outs.

On the other hand, the Labor Ministry urged employees to stop work if the temperature is above 38 degrees Celsius, as their salaries will not decrease.

Meteorologists warn that today, temperatures will be over 39 degrees Celsius and will reach 43 degrees in central Greece by the end of the week.
