Romanian President Traian Basescu has confirmed Development minister Laszlo Borbely as interim minister for Communications and Information Technology, a presidency press release informs. Borbely was supported for the job by PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu as the man who held the job so far, Zsolt Nagy, was suspended by the president earlier this month as he is the subject of an organized crime inquiry.

Nagy was suspended June 11 because High Court prosecutors have opened an investigation over the role he allegedly played in a scandal related to the privatization of Romania’s energy companies.

Both Nagy and Borbely are members of the Hungarian Democrats (UDMR), the main political group of ethnic Hungarians in Romania. The cases of Nagy and of other top UDMR politicians investigated for various abuses have sparked an outcry among UDMR and Hungarian government officials.
