In an interview on Wednesday, Romanian foreign Minister declared that, although Romanians are eager to be able to enter the US without any visa, a clear date for the event can't be specified yet.

Adrian Cioroianu is conducting a visit to the US, meeting major politicians and the lobby company that represent the Romanian point of view near the Congress.

The US officials met this far ensured Cioroianu that the visa waiver program is one of the most important problems on the Washington agenda, and that Romania has the necessary support in this "difficult process".

Senator Richard Lugar, co-president of the Senates' Foreign Relations Committee, said that he hopes for a major move in the program sometime during the following months.

Congressman Robert Wexler, one of the firmest supporters of the project, says that the visa elimination program must refer to all EU countries, including new coming Romania.

The politician said that immigration is not a major issue and that the visa elimination would be an important sign of friendship shown to Romania by the US for the excellent cooperation in Afghanistan and other theaters on the globe.

Still, Wexler avoided speaking about a clear date, once again demanding president Bush to put pressure on the Congress, so that procedures would go faster.

Cioroianu says that the existing good relationship and, the low immigration risk and the fruitful cooperation until now matter a lot in the future decisions, but that there is a balance in the high visa denial rate at the US embassy in Bucharest.
