Chilean director Sebastian Campos’ “La Sagrada Familia” received the top award at the Transylvania International Film Festival-TIFF that concluded on Sunday. Campos’ success had managed to receive two awards as Romanian director Cristian Mungiu’s “4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days” was withdrawn from the TIFF film competition.

Campos told HotNews.ro on Sunday that he was surprised by the jury’s choice. “I don’t know why I received this award, you should ask the jury. My film is made with a low budget but still managed to reach the souls of viewers. Maybe this explains the decision”, he said.

Twelve other awards were offered at the TIFF, including two for Cristian Mungiu’s film and one for film veteran Franco Nero.

Cristian Mungiu’s “4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days”, the recipient of the Palme d’Or award in Cannes this year, was withdrawn from the competition for the TIFF grand prize because organizers asked that a film awarded at Cannes should not enter other competitions.

TIFF organizers said they would accept the will of the Cannes Film Festival despite Mungiu’s movie had been selected for the Transylvanian Festival as early as March this year.
