The first surgical intervention to separate Siamese twins Anastasia and Tatiana Dogaru was stopped because on of the girls' brain was turgid, CNN informs, quoting the statement of a Rainbow Babies and Children Hospital official.

The team working in Cleveland discovered the situation after cutting open a piece of skull. The effective separation hasn't started yet, because the swollen part didn't deflate even after medication.

Doctors try to determine the cause of the swollen and, according to the results, will decide whether to continue or not the separation procedures. The chief of the surgical team said the girls were awake and playful only one day after the operation.
