A Bucharest judge has decided the suspension of the merger of the Baneasa and Otopeni Airports, the two air gateways in the Romanian capital, until a challenge to the fusion, submitted over a case involving 8.9 hectares of land in a much sought real estate area, is solved. The announcement was made by Transport minister Ludovic Oran, quoted by the NewsIn news agency.

The challenge was submitted by the Utility Aviation service, which is involved in several court disputes with the Baneasa Airport.

Orban said he would propose a government decision to allow the two airports function separately until the solution is solved.

The merger process was launched in March this year. The National Airport Company - Bucharest will have to working points once the merger concludes -the Otopeni international airport and the Baneasa airport.
