Romania’s gross domestic product grew by 6% in the first quarter of 2007 compared to the same period last year, reaching 68.49 billion RON, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute today. The pace of growth is lower than that of Q1 2006, when the INS evaluated a GDP growth of 6.9%.

Romanian authorities forecast an overall 6.5% yearly growth of the Romanian economy this year, down from the 7.7% reported in 2006.

The Institute is expected to provide detailed information on the evolution of the main GDP components by the end of next week.
