President Traian Basescu signed on Thursday a decree to call back the Romanian extraordinary ambassador in Italy, Cristian Valentin Colteanu, named in the office in 2003. Colteanu was also Romania’s ambassador to Malta and the Republic of San Marino.

The official was involved in two controversies, one being the scandal of the six diplomats’ letter to Romano Prodi, the other - the flaws in organizing the May 19 referendum.
