The unemployment rate stood at 7.2% in Romania in the fourth quarter of 2006, up 0.2% compared to the previous quarter and 0.4% more than the same period in 2005, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute The data was computed according to the criteria of the ILO criteria.

The ILO unemployment rate stood 2.1% above the rate previously reported by the National Agency for Employment (ANOFM).

Long term unemployment stood at 3.9%. The highest rate stood at 21.5% in the case of youth aged 15-24. On gender terms, the rate stood at 8.3% among men and 5.9% among women. And unemployment stood at 8.6% in urban areas and 5.5% in rural areas.
