The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) signed an agreement for taking over 9.8% of the stock at two Romanian energy related companies, E.ON Gaz Romania Holding and E.ON Energie Romania, both with German group E.ON as majority shareholder, a release of the international financial institution informs.

According to media sources, the transaction rises to some 43 million euros.

After the transaction, EBRD will hold 5% of the stock at the gas distribution company E.ON Gaz Romania and 5% at the electricity company E.ON Moldova.

In June 2005, E.ON Ruhrgas bought 51% of Romanian gas distribution company Distrigaz Nord. In October 2005, E.ON Energie bought 51% of Electrica Moldova, currently split into E.ON Moldova Distribution and E.ON Moldova Provisioning.

EBRD is currently one of the main investors in Romania, with 3.5 million euros involved in over 190 projects.
