Employees at the Galati-based Mittal Steel mill will go on warning strike for two hours on Monday, claiming 34% higher salaries and threatening to go on general strike by March 26 unless their requests are answered.

Workers’ representatives have said that they could only manage a 7% salary increase after a three-month period of negotiations. They also claim salary bonuses and a new calculus for wages on leaves from work.

The minimum salary for non-qualified workers stands at 436 RON while that of a qualified worker - at 554 RON (less than 200 US dollars).
