The Moldova Republic official withdrew its agreement for the opening of two new Romanian consulates in the cities of Cahul and Balti, according to an official note sent by the Moldovan Foreign Ministry to the Romanian homologue institution. The consulates were designed to ease the procedures for Moldovan citizens who want to enter Romania.

Romanian officials deny receiving such a note from any Kishinev institution. Moldova’s decision comes a week after Government officials roughly criticized the citizenship policy Romania imposed for Moldovan citizens.

Romanian officials answered that the Kishinev officials intentionally exaggerated the figures referring to the number of Moldovans demanding Romanian citizenship.
