Romanian President Traian basescu signed a decree on Monday releasing Mihai Razvan Ungureanu from the seat of Foreign Minister, a month after Ungureanu submitted his resignation, the Presidency announced on Tuesday.

But the President failed to approve the nomination of Liberal politician Adrian Cioroianu, whom PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu has been pushing to take over the reigns of the Foreign Ministry.

Presidency spokeswoman Adriana Saftoiu recalled that Basescu had expressed reservation about Cioroianu from the very beginning, as he considered him too inexperienced in foreign affairs.

And she said the President had postponed the decree on Ungureanu’s resignation because he wanted Romania to be well represented at the spring European Council last week.
