President Traian Basescu and PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu leave to Brussels on Thursday, in order to participate in the spring session of the European Council (March 8-9).

It is the first reunion of the council where Romania participates as a full member of the European Union.

President Basescu informed the press about the main subjects to be approached in this session :

- The EU energy policy

- The possible cuts into bureaucracy designed to simplify procedures for citizens and companies

- An evaluation of the Lisbon strategy goals accomplishment

Basescu also mentioned two measures critical for Romania - the allocation of resources for education and research, as well as funds for the development of business potential.
