The war Romanian MPs declared against Justice minister Monica Macovei continued on Wednesday with a decision by the Senate Judicial Commission to remove the duties related to the naming of the prosecutor general from the Justice Ministry to the Supreme Council of Magistrates.

The decision was made within minutes after a proposal in this regard was tabled by ex-Justice minister Rodica Stanoiu and another opposition Senator. The proposal had been previously rejected in the House.

The initiators claim it was not normal for the Justice minister to nominate prosecutors because she serves as a political person.

The head of the Judicial Commission, Peter Eckstein Kovacs, opposed the change however, calling it unconstitutional.
