In order to launch the Nabucco project, the designation of an European coordinator said the European Commissioner for Energy, Andris Piebalgs. Estimating the chances for such a huge project to come to life, the commissioner declared: "There is political will, from all states involved. All countries expressed their strong support for the project".

The Nabucco projects aims at transporting Caspian oil and natural gas directly towards Europe, so it may reduce the energetic dependence on Russia.

Romanian Economy Minister, Varujan Vosganian, believes that the European coordinator to be put in charge should be very familiar with the region's particular attributes. A similar importance for Romania, says Vosganian, is beard by the Constanta-Trieste pipeline.

A few days ago, the Nabucco developers closed the negotiations with the energy giant Total, due to several problems. The project is worth a total of over 6 billion euros.
