Romania ranks last but one in the European Union, when it comes to productivity per employee indicators, the only country with a worse situation being Bulgaria. According to an Eurostat study for 2005, Romania ranked 24th in 25 states.

The study indicates a level of productivity per employee of 39.2% of the EU average. The same figure for Bulgaria is 32.9%.

Baltic countries qualified for 46 - 56%, while the leaders were Luxembourg (160.8%), Belgium (128.1%) and Ireland (126.77%).

The estimates for Romania in 2006 indicate a 40.9% productivity, with a chance to reach 42.5% in 2007 and 44.2% in 2008.

The figures come from analyzing the GNP and its report with the average number of employees.
