The Ukrainian Parliament invented a village on Insula Serpilor (the Serpents' Island), a rock on the Black Sea, near Danube's exit, important due to the oil reserves nearby.

Romania and Ukraine dispute property at the Hague International Court. The Ukrainian move intends to prove that the island is inhabited, although it hasn't got its own water resource, as international law requires.

The dispute between the countries hasn't been settled in over a decade and caused several tensions. The Romanian Foreign Ministry considers that the Ukrainian actions will have no legal effects and can not influence the continental platform delimitation process.
