A giant fire burst in the protected natural reservation of Danube Delta, with over 1,500 hectares burning during the past two days. The fire was extinguished only on Wednesday. The Environment Guard's officials say the cause of the fire is still unknown.

A total of 1,620 hectares were affected, the fire passing through the following districts: Maliuc, Caraorman, Crisan, Sulina and Sfantu Gheorghe. Most of the fire went off by itself, the only human intervention taking place in Litcov-Caraorman.
