Advertising for tobacco on street panels and public places will be banned starting on January 1st, 2007. The mayor, Adriean Videanu, also announced that such advertising would e fined with a minimum of 4,000 RON (some 1.300 euros) for each panel found after January 1st.

“Starting next year, we have to align to the European tobacco advertising rules”, said Videanu. The companies still may advertise, but the clips and posters may no longer contain visual or written elements to promote smoking.
