Romanian GDP reported an 8.3% growth in the third quarter of 2006 with an overall 7.8% boost from the beginning of the year, while the current account deficit grew 7.7%, according to the latest report from the National Statistics Institute.

The report shows trade deficit deepened due to a 19.1% growth of imports against an 11.4% improvement of exports.

It also says some 20,730 homes were build in the first nine months of the year, with 90% of the costs supported by the population. Industrial production improved 3.7% in October compared to the previous month.

The unemployment rate stood at 5.1%. The highest unemployment level was reported in the county of Vaslui (11.1%), followed by Mehedinti (9.2%) and Gorj (9%).
