Romanian Justice minister Monica Macovei is one among the 50 nominees for the “European of the Year” category in the European Voice awards. The EV gala will take place in Brussels on Tuesday night. The European Voice magazine is part of The Economist Group.

Macovei was nominated for the reform of Romanian Justice and her fight against corruption, two key areas in the preparation of Romania to join the European Union on January 1, 2007. For that, she was considered among the top 50 personalities that have influenced the European political and social agenda this year.

Other nominees are many members of the European Commission and of the European Parliament, business people such as Lakshmi Mittal or Bill Gates, world personalities such as Kofi Annan or Alan Greenspan and even prominent writers such as Orhan Pamuk.
