The southern suburbs of Bucharest will be partially isolated from the rest of the city for an year and a half starting Thursday due to works at a future pedestrian passage, the City Hall announced on Tuesday.

Road traffic in the area of Eroii Revolutiei Square, close to the historical Bellu Cemetery, will have to tackle with only two lanes instead of the current eight. The area is the main link from downtown Bucharest to the south of the city and further to the city of Giurgiu, on River Danube.

People living in the area will have to cope with alternative routes that go as far as the western suburbs of Militari and Drumul Taberei if trying to reach the city center.
