The new chief of the European Commission’s Romanian branch is Italian diplomat Donato Chiarini. The official press release of the Foreign Affairs Ministry came immediately after Chiarini submitted his recommendation letters. After January 1st, the EC delegation will become a fully righted representative.

Chiarini worked before in the General Enlargement Management Office in Brussels, but focused mainly on African states.

Between 1975 and 1987, Chiarini was a counselor in the European Commission’s Delegation in Mauritius, Reunion, Seychelles, the Comoro islands, Lebanon, Morocco and Kenya, as well as chief of the EC’ Antenna in Djibouti (1975).
