Economy Minister, Codrut Seres, declared on Thursday that Romania may enter this winter in a deep natural gas crisis. The reason invoked by Seres is the fact that two major players on the market, Distrigaz Sud and Distrigaz Nord, do not have any safe and firm contracts with the providing companies.

Even more, recently privatized local company Petrom recently increased the price for the gas extracted on Romanian territory, after the Competition Council approved the price modification, yet Seres claims the price growth is abusive.

“Distrigaz Nord and Sud have no form contracts for the following months and they consume more than they import. The danger to run out of gas this winter is real”, said Seres in a press conference on Thursday.

Seres finally found out (our note) that the gas import and distribution contracts have severe flaws. Even with clauses such as “when I don’t have enough gas to provide, I might cover the difference next month”.

The price for existing or absent gas will grow with an 8.5% average in November.
