A Romanian citizen accused of conducting spying activities in Nigeria was freed on bail on Tuesday, the Romanian Ambassador to Nigeria Emil Rapcea has confirmed for AFP. Other five persons - one Jewish, one Israeli and three Nigerians - charged in the same case last week were also freed.

Bogdan Dumitrescu, 50, Eliav Hommossany, 46, James Nolan, 40 and three Nigerians had been detained for holding, taking over and copying classified documents. They all pleaded not guilty.

A resident in Nigeria for 12 years, Dumitrescu had been running his own company, while the Nigerians had worked for the Ministry of Defence.

If found guilty they risk a jail sentence of up to 14 years. The case is back in court on November 21.
