A day after his expulsion from the National Liberal Party-PNL, presidential counselor Theodor Stolojan attacked PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu, the head of the PNL, on Wednesday claiming that he was the one who ordered the expulsion in a “revolting and shameful” way.

Stolojan, who served as PNL president in the past and led the party until the victory of a coalition of Liberals and Democrats in the 2004 elections, said he was not ousted from a local branch of the party, as officially announced yesterday, but at the orders of Tariceanu himself.

And Tariceanu, he said, wanted him to go because the current leader of the party opposed changes supported by a faction of the party, led by Stolojan, and wanted to keep the status quo within the PNL, where “personal interests come before party interests”.
