A Belgian far-right party has promised its supporters not to allow the access of Romanian and Bulgarian workers in the Flemish regions of Belgium no matter what the government in Brussels would decide in this regard, according to Bulgarian news website Sofia Echo.

In September 2006, the Vlaams Belang (Flemish Interest) political group accused Bulgarians and Romanians of contributing to rising criminality in Belgium and said it opposed the accession of the two countries in the EU.

The party obtained several victories in local elections in the north of the country recently, claiming some 20% of the votes in the Flemish autonomous region.
