Members of the “Golden Generation” of Romanian gymnasts led by Montreal star Nadia Comaneci reunited in Bucharest on Saturday as President Traian Basescu presided over a ceremony in which all champions of Romanian gymnastics over the past 30 years received top state medals.
“It is a huge honour for me. I will thank my colleagues who came especially for me at this festivity”, Romanian all-time star Nadia Comaneci said with this occasion.
For his part, President Basescu, flanked by reputed coaches Mariana Bitang and Octavian Bellu - now presidential aides - noted that the Romanian Gymnastics Federation managed to bring over 300 medals to Romania in the past decades.
