The Education unions expressed their disappointment with the Romanian Government’s proposal to increase the salaries with 14%. A meeting on Tuesday between the Unions’ and the Financial and the Education ministries’ did not manage to bring the peace between two parties, or to satisfy the financial demands of the professors.

The Unions found the proposal “unacceptable”; hence they announced that the ceremonies will be replaced by protests on the first day of school. Courses start on Monday, September 18, as the unions’ representative do not want to punish the pupils, but the decision makers who are not willing to increase the quality of the education process by granting higher salary raises.

The meeting on Tuesday was preceded by another one last week, when the two parties agreed to talk over a new proposal of the Government. Talks on Tuesday will be continued provided the Unions submit a counter - proposal to the one presented by the Govt.
