PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu has decided to submit a proposal for a considerable reduction of state secretaries in Romanian ministries, spokeswoman Oana Marinescu said at the end of a government session on Wednesday. She said the proposal includes a 30% cut of the number of state secretaries and also supports a looser hand for ministry decision making.

Marinescu also spoke of another issue of political debate - that of a proposed package of legislation on national security issues. She said the Government sent the package to its ministries on May 24 and that PM Tariceanu wanted to see the laws in Parliament as far as possible.

But she said that nine ministers have yet to submit their proposals and observations on the draft laws.
