The General Secretary of the Romanian Government announced plans to organize a public debate on the national security laws on July 26, following the intention of the Romanian president’s to appoint the new heads of the special services only after the endorsement of these legal provisions.

The president showed dissatisfaction with the sluggishness of the process regarding the adoption of the national security laws and blamed the Government and the Parliament for delaying the endorsement of the laws.

Before further discussions unfold in the Government and the Parliament, the laws must be subjected to the public debate, to the civil society and the mass-media’s analysis.

Following the public debate, a new event will take place on day later that will put face to face the “individual freedom vs. National security”. These consultations are aimed at making more transparent the law making process.
