The risk of bird flu is not yet over in Romania and authorities must take measures early to prevent a spread of the virus, the head of an infectious disease institute in Bucharest has warned. Adrian Streinu Cercel of the Matei Bals Institute says it is very possible that the H5 virus appear again in autumn this year.

He explained that the virus has a period of resistance of two years, during which immunization activities are carried in fowl flocks. Streinu also announced that a new campaign of vaccination among the population will start on October 1 as risks are high that the human flu virus get in contact with the H5 virus.
